Common signs of skunks
The most obvious sign is odor, but you may also notice digging near deck edges, disturbed soil, nighttime movement, or pets reacting strongly near one area.
Do not scare or corner it
Avoid poking under the deck, spraying water into the space, or sending pets near the suspected den. A startled skunk is more likely to spray.
Check access points
Skunks often use low openings under decks, porches, sheds and crawlspace edges. The solution may include trapping, exclusion and closing access once the animal issue is resolved.
